Selling and Buying a House with Two Kids in Tow: Our Journey Begins

2006: The Last Time Our House Was Empty

I don’t know exactly where to start on this topic, but I figure I better chronicle our next big 2014 action item. The time has come to upsize our home. In our current space, there are at least three extra pieces of furniture in each room with nowhere else to go and toys and books exploding in every corner. Our once-cute starter home should now be in the hands of that twenty-something couple my husband and I used to be or a single person looking for the perfect easy-upkeep home.

In a few weeks, we begin the process of our first move. We are putting nearly half the items in our house in storage, hoping that it will help us clean and stage the house for pictures and showings. We’ve hired a Realtor, talked to friends in the business, and spoken to a carpet installer, who will remove our cat-torn and kid-worn carpet once the movers come and go. After that, it’s time to get the house listed and vacate the place for a late-winter open house. And, of course, we’ll have to start looking for our future home too.

Here’s to one last weekend living “normally” for some time. However, I am not very motivated to keep the house up these days knowing it’ll be ripped apart in the coming weeks; I’ll have plenty of time with the Magic Eraser in February!
