Steve's Favorite Player, the Phanatic
Tonight, the Philadelphia Phillies begin the 2009 MLB season. I am so jazzed about the fact that my team is kicking off the season, on Sunday Night Baseball no less!
I have always loved baseball, and it’s my favorite sport to watch on television and in person. I’ve posted some pictures from Citizen’s Bank Park a few years ago. My dad got a great pic of Cole pitching to an Astros’ player.

Cole Hamels Pitching in the 2007 Season
Steve and I try to catch a handful of live games every year and I love watching the Phils on TV. However, I still dutifully watch the Sunday Night Baseball game every week no matter what teams are playing. I may live in a city that has a team now (that I love) but I still enjoy watching other teams.
One of the reasons that I get so excited for opening day is that I believe the best months of the year happen to be the months when the pros are playing baseball. Although I love the holiday season, there is nothing better than a baseball game, a barbecue, and some hot weather. Bring on the summer!

By mid day today, I will be finished with another one-credit class in my grad school program. I have a few assignments to finish for it later this week, but at least I don’t have to go to Saturday class after this.
After class I am meeting up with a friend to visit my local yarn store because she needs a relaxing project to work on. Hopefully we’ll find something for her to do.
This evening Steve and I will see an Oscar-nominated movie and tomorrow will be all about homework and football. We haven’t even planned a menu yet, likely because we’re still disappointed that the Eagles didn’t make it to the big game.

Brrr, baby! It’s cold outside.
Steve and I just returned from errands, which ended up being a good reason to get out without having to be outside for too long.
We had fun spending a gift card at Barnes and Noble (I got some new craft books and other fun stuff including a pad of Amy Butler paper) and then headed to our favorite local food spots close to home. I snacked on my all-time favorite food (an Amish pretzel dipped in cinnamon and sugar) and we went a little crazy at our local Italian market. During the Eagles game tomorrow, Steve and I will be noshing on pasta, bruchetta, eggplant roll-ups, breadsticks, and ricotta canolli gelato. I can’t wait for tomorrow’s big game!

This week went by like molasses because many of us in the Philadelphia area are gearing up for Sunday’s NFC Championship game. Steve and I have planned our meal and can’t wait to watch ‘em birds!
I have a Saturday class tomorrow (aw shucks!) and it’s freezing cold out (double aw shucks!) but I know I’ll make it through.
Maybe tomorrow I’ll finish my quilted purse and start my kimono . . . we’ll see!

Well, I didn’t get much done in the way of projects this weekend. However, I am starting to compile my home project list for 2009. So far, I am thinking of new area rugs for the living room, a dishwasher, painting some ceiling tiles, and sprucing up our porch and patio. Although it doesn’t compare to the big Pergo project from last year, it’s nice to have a few things in mind.
Here’s a picture of a little Amy Butler Stash and Dash Bag that I made last week for a coworker. I like the small size and hope to make one for myself when I get my project energy back. In the meantime, I prepping for a full week of grad school classes.

Oh, and one more thing . . . GO EAGLES!

Although we have a few plans this weekend, including heading down to the Wachovia Center soon for a college basketball game and an obligation tomorrow, Steve and I hope for a more quiet, toned-down weekend. We’ve really enjoyed our time with friends and family in the last month, but now we need to recharge for 2009. I haven’t even had the opportunity to enjoy my holiday gifts yet!
We’ll be cooking healthy foods and watching lots of NFL football in our downtime, and I hope to be refreshed and relaxed by the time Monday hits. My classes start Tuesday . . . yikes!

Given that the new year is still new, I’ve decided to update the look of my blog. I hope you like it (I think it’s easier to read and, given that I am posting frequently, it needs to be easy to read).
I am working to finish some projects tonight and hope to post them later this week. Then I’ll have to retire from mass-producing project mode to start a new semester. This weekend seems exciting though. Steve and I are attending a VU basketball game and we’re looking forward to watching the Eagles win!

One more day of work and then the holidays really begin!
Tonight we’re feasting on a black bean pie and watching the Poinsettia Bowl.
Go BSU!

It’s been a whirlwind week: two final projects/tests for grad school, a shopping trip for Steve’s presents, and a very busy work week. But the good news is that the work week is nearly over, Steve’s presents are wrapped and under the tree, and my finals are done.
I am excited for the weekend to begin because I need a little decompressing time at home. Thank goodness the Eagles won Monday, and I am most excited for Tuesday night, when the Broncos play in the Poinsettia Bowl! That will certainly be a night of good food, drink, and sport!

Although I will not be lining up in front of stores today to commemorate the very American “black Friday,” I am still excited that the holiday season is upon us. Steve and I are headed up to NYC with friends to continue the holiday weekend.
We had some great Thanksgiving celebrations, and my stomach still aches from all of the overeating that occurred! And . . . thank goodness the Eagles won!
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
