Fun Fabric

Fun Fabric

Fun Fabric

A few weeks ago I bought some fun new fabric at my local fabric store. As I have focused on the last month or so with finding neutral, non-novelty fabrics for my color wheel, I decided to buy some really fun, small-project friendly fabrics. So I bought some from of Sandi Henderson’s Farmers Market prints, the “What’s for Dinner” fabric print, and another fabric that I lost the name to but will look up when I go back to Cloth and Bobbin (which will probably be soon).

Once I am finished with my semester I can’t wait to dig into these fun and vibrant prints!

Dreaming of Squirrel Hunting

Dreaming of Squirrel Hunting

Here’s another recent shot of a snoozing Napoleon. Do you think he could lay off the food a bit?!?

P.S. One more fund-raising class before the final. I am starting to realize my semester’s coming to an end!

Tough Life

Zzzzzzzz

Zzzzzzzz

We’ve had a spell of really hot weather around here. Napoleon’s favorite sleep spot is our oak table, especially in the warmer months. Here he is on Sunday, snoozing the day away.

Though I can’t be a cat, I am looking forward to some rest and relaxation this summer. Despite the impending schoolwork, I am trying to focus on our many vacays and get togethers with friends that are not far away. It’s great to think that trips to NYC and Minneapolis will be here within a month.

Hmph.

Excuse my negativity here. It’s just that a ninety-degree weekend that is filled with statistics and fund-raising is not my idea of a great time. I’d rather be well, fishing. Or hiking. Or swimming. Or traveling.

However, I must remind myself that I have only two weeks to go. Until statistics is over. Forever.

Until then, it may be a bumpy ride!

Even More Birds

Make Way for Birdies

Make Way for Birdies

Though I didn’t sew this, here is another bird-themed home decor item. Like the polka-dot, I’ve had serious eyes for all things bird lately (I guess I had to get tired of cats at some point! But need not fear, I still like them too!) This sign that I hung above the entryway to my kitchen was part of my exploration into decoupage from a few weeks back. Overall, I am pretty happy with the medium. It had been years since I attempted working with Mod Podge.

In other news, I am still doing pretty well on the eating-right diet and I am starting to gear up for some end-of-the-semester craziness. And I am seriously excited for the eighty-degree weather predicted for the weekend! Hopefully Steve and I will have our first barbecue.

Some More Birds and One Quadrant Complete

April 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I had a great weekend. It was sunny and warm, and I had the opportunity to hang out with old and new friends.

It was also a productive weekend, with Steve and I tending to our garden by putting in new edging, maintaining our diets, and stocking up on warm-weather duds.

I also had the chance to watch some sports yesterday and work on many sewing projects. The best part of my sports/sewing day was the amount of work I got done. I started a new project (I’ll post on that later), finished some more Spool birds, tied more of the summer quilt, and completed the first quadrant of my color wheel quilt. Needless to say,  I dreamed in fabric patterns last night! (And yay for the Philly sports teams! Every team won!)

Here are some pictures from my day:

I’m ignoring graduate school demands tonight to keep working on my color wheel. More pics to come . . .

Ode to the Polka Dot

Since January, my eye has been catching a particular pattern, which is slowly creeping into all aspects of my life.

First, it was the home decor . . .

Then, it was fabric for projects . . .

And now it’s part of my wardrobe . . .

As I write this I am contemplating purchasing another item for my random polka-dot collection.  I love the pattern, because it’s whimsical, fun, and well, let’s face it, not boring. After years of solids and a few flowers thrown in here and there, I am excited to embrace some these little dots!

Eat Your Veggies!

April 14, 2009 · 1 Comment

After nearly six months of not really watching what I eat, I’ve decided that making a better effort to eat healthy is at the top of my priority list. By the end of last weekend, I had made up my mind that vegetables must become a part of my diet everyday and that I can no longer buy containers of candy.

Therefore, I hope to start making more of an effort in the kitchen. I tried a really good Israeli couscous/zucchini/tomato dish yesterday and I enjoyed a large helping of asparagus today. Hopefully in two weeks I won’t have to think twice to convince myself to chow down!

I am a little sad right now because Steve and I will not be doing a CSA for our veggies this summer, but we are traveling too much to really make the share worth it. Those who are doing it, I hope you enjoy!

Holiday Weekend

April 10, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Although this isn’t a knock out, drag out, sort of holiday weekend, I am very excited because my best friend is visiting this weekend. She lives up in New York these days and I don’t get much of a chance to see her. Needless to say, I am very excited to have some time with her.

We are doing all sorts of girly things this weekend including shopping at the big King of Prussia Mall and visiting a wine bar I’ve been dying to try downtown. And, despite the fact that we’re supposed to have really crappy weather, I know we’ll have a great weekend.

It’s been bit of a quiet week on the crafting and creating front, but I hope to finish tying my queen-size summer quilt this week and am continuing to crochet hexagons for a fall bag that I am making. I have also posted a pic of the Amy Butler Tray I made last weekend, when I was attempting to decoupage for the first time in years. I used Amy’s paper to decorate the tray and I really like how it turned out. I am using it on the coffee table in my living room to keep remote controls, coasters, and magazines in one place.

The Best Months of the Year

Steve's Favorite Player, the Phanatic

Steve's Favorite Player, the Phanatic

Tonight, the Philadelphia Phillies begin the 2009 MLB season. I am so jazzed about the fact that my team is kicking off the season, on Sunday Night Baseball no less!

I have always loved baseball, and it’s my favorite sport to watch on television and in person. I’ve posted some pictures from Citizen’s Bank Park a few years ago. My dad got a great pic of Cole pitching to an Astros’ player.

Steve and I try to catch a handful of live games every year and I love watching the Phils on TV. However, I still dutifully watch the Sunday Night Baseball game every week no matter what teams are playing. I may live in a city that has a team now (that I love) but I still enjoy watching other teams.

One of the reasons that I get so excited for opening day is that I believe the best months of the year happen to be the months when the pros are playing baseball. Although I love the holiday season, there is nothing better than a baseball game, a barbecue, and some hot weather. Bring on the summer!
